EyeExam

Expert
Eyecare

Corry & Christie is an award winning independent optical practice situated in the city centre of Aberdeen with a weekly clinic in Aboyne Hospital. Our aim to provide our patients with an expert standard of eyecare along with an excellent range of eyewear.

Regular eye examinations are important to ensure that your eyes remain healthy and that your vision remains optimal, especially as many eye conditions are treatable if caught early.

During your examination we will routinely test for common eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataract and macular degeneration. In addition, as eye examinations can be a good indicator of a patient’s general health we may be able to spot signs of conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

We have well-equipped, computerised consulting rooms, an OCT Scanner, digital retinal and anterior eye cameras, a corneal topographer, computerised visual field analysers and also access to a wide range of clinical software to help us provide you with the best possible examination.

At the end of your consultation we will explain our findings, and if you have any questions, we will be more than happy to answer them for you.

Everyone in Scotland is entitled to a regular NHS funded Eye Examination. This is normally biannually, but can be annually if you are under 16, over 60 or have diabetes.

Independent
Prescribing

Independent prescribing is the ability for specific healthcare professionals, such as pharmacists, nurses, and optometrists, to assess, diagnose, and clinically manage patients and prescribe medications without the direct supervision of a doctor.

Independent Prescribing qualification involves:

This higher qualification allows us to quickly and appropriately manage many eye conditions that would previously have needed to be dealt with by your GP or the Eye Clinic, and allows us to provide a wider range of patient care, from diagnosis and treatment to follow-up in the convenience of our practice.

Accredited
Glaucoma
Clinic

Glaucoma ‘the silent thief of sight’ is an eye condition where the main nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged. It's most common in adults aged 50 and over and can cause vision loss if it's not diagnosed and treated early.

Glaucomatous damage usually develops slowly and without symptoms, so most people do not realise they have glaucoma until it is picked up during a routine eye examination.

Treatment options include eye drops, laser and surgery and all aim to reduce eye pressure. This can slow the progress of the disease, but cannot repair any damage that is already done.

Our practice has been an accredited Glaucoma practice within ‘Grampian Glaucoma Referral Refinement and Monitoring Scheme’ since 2004, and has carried out over 8,000 assessments for the Eye Clinic, helping to manage the NHS glaucoma workload and reduce glaucoma referral waiting times in Grampian.
